Aosta, the focal point of the vast, stunning mountain scape that makes up the Aosta Valley. It's not only a beautiful landscape, it's a stunning city filled with culture, great food, good people, cool bars, Roman ruins and the hustle and bustle of a cosmopolitan city. It's a large city that's geographically quite spread out, with several different lieu-dits or suburbs. But the actual town centre itself is small, walked in under 15 minutes, with hidden lane ways sprawling off the same cobbled streets that was the centre of this Roman gateway town centuries ago.

This is a quick fire essential guide to the town, while on a mountain biking tour based in Aosta, wether you stay with us on a custom package or on our Aosta Valley Backcountry MTB Tour, this, paired with the knowledge of local guides will be a useful tool to navigate the best parts of Aosta.

Restaurants

Bataclan
An amazing restaurant to sit in, never mind eat. If it's good weather, the outside garden setting is a must do. Inside is bohemian and trendy. The service is friendly and efficient. Most come here for the excellent pizza, but the other dishes on the menu all hit the right notes.

Ocio
It's a burger bar, but it's a whole lot more. The young and friendly team have a selection of house made burgers aswell some cool and yet traditional Italian dishes with gnocchi, fried veggies, seafood and meats and some cool specials on the daily changing black board. Great drinks on offer aswell.

Bars

B63
We love this joint. The owner, Etienne is cool, a lovely guy with a great team behind him. The beers are locally brewed, with a hopped lager, IPA and Weiss the highlights of a solid selection. The modern, polished concrete and metal interior makes a cool contrast to the ancient Roman just outside. You can enjoy the architecture and views to the mountains surrounding the town on their large terraced area. We hold our welcome briefing every week on on the Aosta Valley Epic Tour for good reason, as not only is the beer and atmosphere tip top, the food is banging aswell, with great steak and gastro pub classic with typical Aostan pride in the local produce used to create them.
Address - Piazza Severino Caveri, 11100 Aosta AO, Italy

B63 & Il Baretto di Sant'Orso - Local beers. Local gins!

Gelato

Gelateria Gelaty
The busiest Gelateria in Aosta, the best? it's a matter of opinion but it has a large selection of great soft serve delights on offer and the service is fast, friendly and you'll leave with a grin on your face like a smug five year old, holding you cone or cup of delicious. Found on the main street, near the Roman ruins at the centre.
Address - Via Porta Pretoria, 42, 11100 Aosta AO, Italy

Linus
Old School, traditional, using fresh fruit in their recipes this joint is not showy but it's delicious. Found just opposite Swit Shop (Maybe why the boys in there are always smiling). Get something with melon, peach, strawberry or any kind of fruit, they go good.
Address - Via Edouard Aubert, 65, 11100 Aosta AO, Italy

Gelato!

Bike Shops

Cicli Lucchini

Carrying stock of most common parts, with stock from Shimano, Sram, Specialized, Cannondale, Mavic and more, they are also an Andreani suspension centre.

They'll be able to bleed brakes, service forks, repair wheels and more. With a nudge from your local guide they'll be able to get things done in a teimley manner and get you back onto the trails quick smart. But they will only have what's in stock, so if it's not here, chances are you won't be getting it that week.

Address - Corso-Avenue btg. Aosta, 49, 11100 Aosta AO, Italy

The Place

A brilliant facility offering a cafe, bar, restaurant and bike shop all in one. Not only a good place for a post ride beer, it's a Scott associated bike shop with a solid parts selection, plenty of apparel and rental bikes on offer from their pro workshop.

Address - Corso Lancieri di Aosta, 20, 11100 Aosta AO, Italy

Aosta Valley Bike Centre

At the end of the Rientro run down from Pila, ABC is a friendly, well equipped bike shop that's always ready to lend a hand with what you need, great for some brake pads after that mammoth descent!

Address - Frazione Borettaz, 11, 11020 Gressan AO, Italy

Culture and History run deep here

What else is cool?

Tour and tasting at a local winery?

The Aosta Valley is one of the worlds recognised wine regions, with a small but high quality production of aromatic whites and reds, the wine here picks up the characteristics of the high mountain air and varied soil types to deliver wines of great purity. Tanteun e Marietta is a small boutique winery located in the centre of Aosta producing a small amount of locally grown Pinot Noir, Muscat and Pinot Gris, well worth a tour of their historic cellar, which we can arrange.

Know your cheeses?

We love cheese! If you do too a private cellar tour and tasting of the Formaggeria Erba Voglio is worth putting on your holiday radar. Ageing and procuring cheeses from around the region, some of which are only available in microscopic amounts. If you need to get your dairy fix, let us know and we can get you the one on one experience.

Like History?

In 25BC, Augusta Prætoria Salassorum (Aosta) was claimed by Emperor Augustus for the Roman Empire and became a gateway city to the North. The architecture is well preserved and some can be seen for free in the centre of the city, some you can access for a small fee, if you love history or just really miss being at school, this is a pretty cool way to spend some down time when not shredding the trails in the hills above.

All this surrounded by some of the best riding in the world
