The Cairngorms National Park covers a vast area with many different types of mountain biking terrain from the granite rock slabs of Ballater and Ben Macdui to the Caledonian pine forest and loam trails of the Rothiemurchus trails.
There is no one perfect mountain bike for riding in the Cairngorms, the terrain varies so much but as a general rule, to manage the chunky rocks, water bars, rivers and roots that you will encounter on our Mountain bike tours we recommend a full suspension 140-160mm modern trail or enduro bike. One of the most important parts to get right when riding bikes in the Cairngorms are the tyres! You will need Enduro and DH tyres to tackle any serious terrain and the water bars on the descents are killers!

Ride Scotland: Located in Boat of Garten and owned/managed by Nash, with over 20 years of involvement in the local MTB scene and an in-depth knowledge of Santacruz bikes. The offer an extensive workshop service and are an official Shimano Service Centre. They have helped us out on many occasions and we can not recommend them enough.
