The best time for a mountain bike holiday in Morzine

June and September mark some of the best trail conditions in the Morzine summer. While it is true that in June it can take a few days for the riding to shake off the last of the winter debris, small rocks, and branches, especially on secret trails, generally the conditions are as good as they get.

In the Autumn trail crews across Morzine and Les Gets get to work reshaping after the summer season, starting early September, meaning in June they are fresh and primed ready for the season and the first riders of the summer.

In September, this trail work is just beginning and as the routes calm down after the busy season, shapers are hard at work prepping and testing new features while the lifts are still open, making September great for riding. There is something special about Le Pleney in September aswell, the locals are all out and it seems every year something new and amazing pops up just before the lifts close, it's happened every year we can remember...

There are next to no lift queues in mid-June and September, basically, the season starts at the Passportes du Soleil bike festival and ends when August does. At least that's what most tourists seem to think as you are straight on and off every lift out of peak season.

The queues may not be crazy in peak season, but 10 - 20 minutes for a lift is common at peak periods and the busiest lifts, so to be rolling on and off Le Pleney and Zore is a real treat.

It's a peaceful time in Morzine, either in the excitement of the season building up in June, or in the wind down in the lovely late summer temperatures of September. The bars have enough people to be busy, but not so many you can't find a place to sit down and enjoy a beer after a long day on the hill.

Historically, some bars have closed during the September period, but this is changing every year as the summer extends, creating some really nice atmosphere's around the town centre and at the bottom of the slopes. More Morzine businesses are choosing to open year-round aswell, which is developing even more buzz outside of the peak season.

Yes, in these weeks the full Portes du Soleil lift network is not open, this means from Morzine, you'll have access to Le Pleney, Les Gets and Super Morzine lift networks. You will not have access to Switzerland or Chatel.

Does this matter? As far as volume of riding goes, no not at all.

You still have over 250km of trails in Les Gets, Morzine and Super Morzine and over 60 individual downhill tracks, that's before the secret and enduro runs have been counted.To put that into perspective Bike Park Wales has around 50km of trails over 47 runs, priced at around £50 per day. Your full Morzine, Les Gets and Super Morzine lift ticket in June and September would cost you around £150 for 6 days.
