Champery is back! One of the gnarliest, steepest and intense tracks to ever appear on an international mountain bike race calendar makes a return in August 2025. Much of the downhill track in Champery is open to the public all year and accessed by a Portes du Soleil lift pass, making this one of the few races that a member of the public can really appreciate. The World Champs always come with an increased level of pressure and pride, being so close to Morzine, the heart of the Portes du Soleil and European mountain biking this is sure to bring the crowds!
Champery held the European Downhill Championships in 2024, in a 'test event' for the World Champs, with an elite level field showing up to race this iconic track. Andreas Kolb and Lis Baumann taking the gold in a spectacular fashion, perhaps some foreshadowing for the big one in 2025?
How do you get to Champery?
Champery is found just across the French border and is surprisingly easy to access from Morzine. From the centre of Morzine, you can be in Champery in as little as 1.5 hours, depending on the lift lines.
Take the Super Morzine Telecabine, then the Zore Chairlift. Take a trail down to the Proclou lift that accesses Avoriaz. From Avoriaz you need to access the long Mossettes chairlift that takes you to the Swiss border. Grab an espresso at the Cookie Cafe then take the Grand Conche trail into Les Crosets, and the Crosets lift. From here it's a 2 minute pedal across to the top of Champery's trails!
For the World Championships, the track will be closed. It's also highly likely (though not officially confirmed), that the Mosettes chairlift will be closed from the French side by September, meaning the only way to get to Champery from areas like Morzine will be to drive yourself, or take a taxi, which takes around 1.5 hours.
Is there accommodation and riding in Champery for the World Championships?
Yes, Champery is a ski resort with chalets, hotels and apartments. but being Switzerland, it won't be cheap and you'll also be competing with teams from across the world for space.
You will also struggle to do any real riding aswell, given Champery's best track will be closed. The race uses a chairlift rather than the large telepherique, so you will be able to access some trails.
The better option would be to stay in a resort like Morzine and drive yourself across when you want, for a better balanced trip of riding and watching the action.

What is the 2025 Champery World Championships event scehdule?
The downhill (the only event running in Champery) will run from 2nd September - 7th September. With the main event being on Sunday 7th.
Pit setup and track walks will take place on the 2nd and 3rd September, with practice starting from the 3rd, qualification will be the day before on the 6th.

Wednesday 3rd - Track Walk & Practice
Thursday 4th - Practice
Friday 5th - Practice
Saturday 6th - Practice & Qualifying
Sunday 7th - Race
2025 Champery World Championships Track
The track will be an updated version of the classic downhill trail used in years past, such as in those famous runs by Danny Hart and Sam Hill in years gone by. It's a an absolute classic and we can't wait to see what course designer Ben Walker has in store for this event.
