Morgins Bike Park has a new high-speed gondola for the 2024 summer MTB season and we could not be more excited. The Bike Park was closed during the summer of 2023 where work started on the new lift system to replace the original lift built in the 1960’s. After 40 years of loyal service, Switzerland's first detachable chairlift is giving way to Switzerland's second autonomous gondola lift! The new lift is planned for Christmas 2023 so it should have plenty of time to warm up before the 2024 MTB season. New Morgins Bike Park lift.

Morgins is a legendary resort in the world of downhill mountain biking. Built and maintained by the same crew that works on Champery Bike Park around the corner, Morgins is one of the best-built bike parks in Europe. It's certainly one of the wildest, and although it's tiny, what is here is sure to get the adrenaline pumping. With 1 blue and 8 reds, it's not an easy place to ride, you have to be on form. What you'll find here are incredibly well-shaped berms, jumps and landings mixed in with natural, raw root sections and drops. It's flat out and it's wild!

This map shows the whole Champery-Morgins network. From this map, you can't see all the marked trails on offer in Morgins but it shows how far Morgins is from the rest of the Portes du Soleil.

What's the riding like?

If you like rowdy downhill tracks, there may not be a better place to ride. Be careful how you read that though, Morgins forces you to ride at your limits! There is only one blue, the rest are reds and are action-packed top to bottom.

The trails here are extremely well-built, extremely well. Crafted by hand for the most part, the berms here are legendary, as are the jumps and hucks within the downhill tracks that keep World Cup racers stoked on every visit they make.

The flow of the runs is excellent, even with the rooty tech encountered in most of the wood sections, all of the crew that build the trails ride, alot, and very well. Ben Walker the head shaper built Champery's World Cup track and developed downhill bikes for Scott, Vinny T and Nico Vink have had a hand in the work here. Get the picture? Big lines, fast chutes, flat-out and wild!

There's very little rock here, and you'll not see many roots unless you are in the woods. If you like jumps you'll be happy. It rides quite well in the wet but does take a while to drain moisture due to it being north-facing.

Morgins Bike Park Tracks

There are some incredible trails in Morgins ranging from blue to Black, please see below a list of the tracks and some facts and figures about their length, elevation and technicality.

Morgins Bike Park Tracks

  • La Çarigole
  • La Madze
  • La Tobogane
  • La Noire upper
  • La Noire

La Carigole is one of the very best Blue graded bike park trails in the Alps, this track is flat out from top to bottom with incredible berms, roots and some jumps thrown in there just for fun! Hold on tight and let off the brakes if you dare!

  • Length - 2.3km
  • Elevation - 415m

La Madze is a short section of trail that is narrow and technical and will keep you on your toes. With many drops and a decent gap jump at the bottom keep your eyes peeled on this one. At the bottom of the trail is merges with La Tobogane Trail.

  • Length - 577m
  • Elevation - 127m

La Tobogane is an amazing trail with some of the very best berms in the world at the top of the trail leading into a big road gap and then more amazing corners. These have featured heavily on the social media profiles of many world-class riders. The middle section of the trail goes into the woods and there are roots all over the place. The lower section is fast and smooth all the way to the bottom.

  • Length - 2.4km
  • Elevation - 456m

La Noire (+ Noire Upper) drops off the top section of Tobogane trail and is a freeride paradise with huge wooden drops, gaps and roots galore. This is not a track for the faith-hearted. Check it out before you ride it!

Can you ride to Morgins from Morzine?

Yep. You can actually have a pretty cool day out riding from Morzine to Morgins, it's good fun. We even made a video about it. However, most of the riding is on fire roads and it takes around 2 hours at a decent pace. If you make the first lifts in Morzine you're in Morgins and riding for 11am. You'll then have to head back at around 2 pm to make sure you get the lifts back home. Not including dramas, mechanicals and lunch.

So for our money getting there for lift opening is the best, you get a chance to understand how the the trails work without clock watching and rushing around, you can bring your spares, ride without a pack, and just generally do what you are supposed to do on a mountain bike holiday, have fun!

Driving into Morgins

*We cannot drive directly into Morgins, Swiss law states any third-country national must have a working permit for Switzerland and an additional approval to drive in each canton (district). Our driver will not have this permit, our license operates in France and Italy. We stop just before the border, about 2 minute's ride from the Morgins chairlift.
